Last year I was contacted by Tara (mother of Halle & Ethan) requesting information for me to shoot their the upcoming Bnai Mitzvah of her twins Halle and Ethan. I thanked Tara for thinking of me, and let her know I only shot weddings & portraits. Typically I stay away from the teenage crown (ie. Bar Mitzvah’s, Sweet Sixteen Parties, Quincentera’s etc.) I remember what it was like as a teenager….and just never planned on going back!
Tara laughed, and the told me she would not take “No” for an answer. I laughed. I had never shot a Bar, Bat or Bnai Mitzvah ever and I had no idea what the flow was like. I thought how weddings generally have a typical flow, however with Mitzvah’s, the ceremony could not be photographed….how could I document that and bring them back to the day? Again, I politely thanked Tara for thinking of me and gave her the names of other photographers with Mitzvah experience. Again, Tara laughed and said send me the contract……
I conceded, only because Tara was so kind and adamant about having me document this very important event for her children. I said OK and immediately called all my Jewish friends. They were all mad because I had always told them I wouldn’t ever shoot their kids Mitzvahs…and now I was shooting this total stranger’s?? Luckily they go over it and guided and advised me on the event as well as shared books on what to expect.
The day started out with the Bnai Mitzvah ceremony at the temple in Wayland and was followed by an elegant luncheon with close family and friends.
So……here are the photos from this amazing day……Part 1.
